National Gaming Day 2010
Posted on December 17, 2009
Add us to your calendars now - National Gaming Day 2010 will take place on Saturday, November 13! We'll begin announcing more details in spring 2010, so keep watching this space.
We'd also love to hear your ideas for how to make NGD10 even better than 2009. Leave us a comment and tell us what you think!

To make it easier for publishers to support, perhaps provide a central location where games can be sent to. ALA can then distribute them to individual libraries via bulk shipments from there. Also, Hasbro’s support is commendable and they deserve top billing but, right now, a lot of aspects of this site and of the resulting press make them seem like your only sponsor. I suspect this actually discourages smaller publishers from pledging their support and weakens the diversity that you would prefer the National Gaming Day represented.
Also, now that the NGD program appears firmly entrenched within the ALA, I encourage you to extend your outreach to other countries, such as my own country, Canada. Let’s turn this into an International Gaming Day for 2010.
Another thing to consider, where possible, is to bring in local game designers, publishers, and illustrators to talk about the process of crafting a game and introduce library-goers to some of their creations.
Anyhow, well done this year and I look forward to hearing more in 2010!

Thanks for the great feedback, Rob! We definitely want to see what we can do to make NGD an international event next year, so we’re on the same page about that. We haven’t limited it to U.S. libraries in the past (and we were thrilled to see a Canadian and a Japanese library both participate), but we can certainly market the event more beyond our borders.
In general, the programming for the day happens at the local level, and I know several libraries brought in game designers and others involved in the industry as part of their NGD activities. One of the things we’d like to do at the national level is create resources that help libraries connect with local gaming resources in their communities, so we’ll look into that for next year, too.
The one thing we won’t be able to do is have materials sent to one central location so that ALA can distribute them. We just don’t have the resources for that, so that’s one reason we’re so grateful to the companies who have been able to donate and distribute their games.
How can ALA (or more likely the Canadian Library Association) help put you in touch with Canadian libraries? After January, we’ll likely look into approaching the various Canadian library associations to ask if they want to be involved, but the local level will be key, too.
Thanks again for the input!

Local participants should look into Funagain.com’s monthly grant of $100 in gaming materials. http://www.funagain.com/control/rc?p=grants

Would like to know if our event, planned for the evening of Friday the 12th, can be a registered participant. Thanks!

Dianne, yes – please go ahead and register. We’ll still send you a link to the evaluation survey afterwards and just ask that you fill that out since you’re putting on an NGD event.
Thanks!

West Fargo Public Library is interested in NGD event to be held Sat. Nov. 13, 2010. Where do I find out more info?
August 31st, 2010 - 10:06
Hi, Diane –
There’s lots of information on this site, including an FAQ at http://ngd.ala.org/faq/. Is there specific information you’re looking for that you haven’t found?
Best,

Hello, I will be going to NGD this year. I actually play Super Smash Bros. Brawl (A tournament game being held there), and I play that game online competitively. The rules should be changed to 3 stock, and no items on the matches.
~Thanks
